Wisell & McGee, L.L.P. a New York City law firm specializing in medical malpractice and personal injury matters, represent 98 former patients of Spyros Panos, MD, an orthopedic surgeon formerly employed by Mid Hudson Medical Group in Poughkeepsie, New York. According to JT Wisell, his firm expects to file upwards of 100 malpractice cases against Dr. Panos.

Wisell & McGee has already settled one medical malpractice case and seven others are already in suit. “Dr. Panos was a good clinician who often performed faulty and unnecessary operations for his own financial benefit” said Wisell. “While Dr. Panos continued to treat these patients, he never fixed their problems.” Dr. Panos was terminated by Mid Hudson Medical Group and his privileges to practice medicine at both St. Francis Hospital and Vassar Brothers Medical Center were voluntarily surrendered by him.

As a result of an article that appeared in the Poughkeepsie Journal on September 22, 2011, approximately 300 of Dr. Panos’ former patients have contacted Wisell & McGee with questions about medical treatment rendered by him.

As of December 2, 2011, 98 former patients have retained Wisell & McGee to pursue their claims of medical malpractice against Dr. Panos and his employer Mid Hudson Medical Group. A significant number of those retained clients will also pursue claims of medical malpractice against Vassar Brothers Hospital, St. Francis Hospital and Hudson Valley Surgery Center at St. Francis.

Wisell said that many other former patients of Dr. Panos are presently seeking medical treatment outside Mid Hudson Medical Group to ascertain whether they were also victims of medical malpractice. “As you meet these patients – and I have met a lot of them– they all have the same story. Its’s really horrible” said Wisell. According to Wisell, filing a class action suit is not appropriate because the cause of the injuries sustained by the victims is not identical.
